The Puntland Information Management Center (IMC) is a pioneering institution established in late 2019 to serve as a centre for the collecting, processing, analysis, and dissemination of vital data related to land and water resources in Puntland, Somalia. Founded with a mission to enhance sustainable development, the IMC plays a crucial role in promoting evidence-based decision-making, fostering resilience, and supporting environmental conservation efforts within Puntland.

The center’s mission is to strengthen the information landscape by creating a robust, centralized system that can effectively manage, store, and distribute crucial data on natural resources for sustainable actions.

To deliver and disseminate Water, Land, weather and climate information’s for sustainable actions.

Core Functions:

1. Data Collection and Management: IMC is committed to gathering accurate and up-to-date information on key environmental factors, particularly focused on land use, land cover, Land degradation, Soil and Suitability and water resource management. The center collaborates with local and international partners to ensure that its data reflects both global best practices and regional specifics.
2. ⁠Research and Analysis: Through in-depth research and analytical Watershed studies, IMC assesses the challenges and opportunities facing land and water resources in the Puntland. These insights are used to guide policy recommendations, climate adaptation strategies, and conservation initiatives that align with the broader goals of both state and national development plan for sustainable development.
3. ⁠Capacity Building: a core aspect of IMC’s work is empowering local communities, academia, government line ministries, and private sector partners with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively manage Puntland’s natural resources.
