PUNTLAND GU’ SEASONAL RAINFALL OUTLOOK 2025

According to the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), highlighted during the 69th Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF69), there is a higher likelihood of below-normal rainfall in Puntland during March, April, and May 2025.

The probabilistic rainfall forecast for March to May 2025 indicates an increased chance of drier conditions with delayed onset in Puntland.  

The districts of Qardho, Carmo, Qandala, and Caluula have a 40% chance of receiving normal rainfall.

Additionally, the temperature forecast suggests a higher probability of warmer-than-normal conditions across Puntland, with the highest chances exceeding 75%

Stakeholders are encouraged to take anticipatory action for the upcoming GU season, which is expected to be below-average rainfall and warmer-than-normal temperatures.
