Puntland GU’ Seasonal Rainfall and Temperature Outlook: March–May 2026
The Puntland Information Management Center for Water and Land Resources has released the official GU’ Seasonal Rainfall and Temperature Outlook for March–May 2026.
🌧 Rainfall Outlook
The forecast indicates an enhanced likelihood of above-normal to near-normal rainfall across much of Puntland.
- Several districts are expected to have a higher probability (40%) of above-normal rainfall.
- Other areas show near-normal rainfall with equal chances of below- or above-normal totals.
- Rainfall onset may be delayed in most areas, although early onset remains possible.
🌡 Temperature Outlook
Most parts of Puntland are expected to experience a greater than 60% probability of warmer-than-normal temperatures, which may lead to:
- Increased evaporation and reduced surface water availability
- Higher crop water requirements
- Heat stress on livestock and communities
- Reduced pasture growth
📌 Early Preparedness Advised
Given the importance of the GU season, government institutions, partners, and communities are encouraged to take early preparedness and mitigation measures.
