Puntland Geospatial Conference Report 22-23 June 2025

From 22 to 23 June 2025, the Information Management Center (IMC) successfully hosted the first Puntland Geospatial Conference in Garowe. The two-day event highlighted the crucial role of geospatial technologies in managing land, water, and climate data to support informed decision-making across sectors.

Key topics included:

• Use of UAV drones, RTK surveys, and remote sensing for watershed and infrastructure mapping
• Presentation of new publications on land degradation, invasive species, and water resources
• Discussions on the legal frameworks needed to regulate drone use and promote open data
• Capacity-building workshops on GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing

The conference concluded with a shared commitment to institutional sustainability, private sector engagement, and annual geospatial gatherings.
