Background Information
The Puntland Information Management Center (IMC) is a pioneering institution established in late 2019 to serve as a centre for the collecting, processing, analysis, and dissemination of vital data related to land and water resources in Puntland, Somalia. Founded with a mission to enhance sustainable development, the IMC plays a crucial role in promoting evidence-based decision-making, fostering resilience, and supporting environmental conservation efforts within Puntland.

To Ongoing Projects Related to Land & Water Resources
By using the past 20-years data bank of water & Land resources, the technical capacity of our experts and with the help of satellite-based informations:
1. IMC could provide water resources baseline information which will allow stakeholders to reach a decision, plan and intervene based on that.,
2. IMC provides smart solutions for water-related problems and support and improve the sustainability for WATER FOR AGRO-PASTORAL PRODUCTIVITY AND RESILIENCE OR THE “BIYOOLE” PROJECT.
3. IMC has the capacity of conducting feasibility studies and specific-topic studies based on need.
4. Data dissemination and storage for future use of the next generation.

Water Resource Unit
The Water Sources Unit in IMC Puntland is a crucial component dedicated to the comprehensive management of water resources. This unit is responsible for the systematic collection of data regarding various types of water sources, including boreholes, dug wells, springs, dams, and berkads.
Land Resource Unit
GIS and Remote Sensing
The Geospatial Unit at IMC typically produces a variety of outputs by gathering geospatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, aerial photography, and surveys. These outputs include –
-Maps showcasing specific themes, such as water resources (Barked, Borehole, Dam, Dug-well, spring), land use, land cover, and seasonal forecasting, Analyzing environmental changes, vegetation cover, climate trends, rainfall forecasting, and temperature variations.
Information Management
The Department of Information Management is dedicated to delivering high-quality, timely data crucial for sustainable water and land resource management in Puntland. With a focus on data management and creative dissemination, we uphold rigorous standards for data storage, processing, and accessibility. Our team designs engaging infographics, visual summaries, and data-sharing tools, transforming complex information into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders, including line ministries and related agencies. Through these efforts, we ensure impactful data-driven decision-making across the region.
